The Eden Project
and the Sensory
Trust are working together to make Eden more accessible
in the widest sense. This includes helping visitors
with Learning difficulties understand what they are
looking at.
We have started to work with them to make each new
exhibit more informative, The coffee exhibit shows
the process from the plant itself, through picking,
shipping to retail and drinking, in words, symbols
and braille.
The Sensory Trust, is working in many environments
to increase opportunities for everyone to enjoy the
natural world. People get tremendous pleasure from
nature in all kinds of ways. The Trust is using many
techniques, including symbols, to make greenspace
more accessible.
The symbol support in Eden aids visitors with learning
difficulties, and those who do not read English.
There are three ways in which symbols are being used:
- Directing indicators and emergency information
- To indicate the key concepts in a display
- To give more extensive information to help visitors
understand the issues.
